Athena - USA - The Countdown Begins

T-9 days and counting! I can't believe this trip--a 5 month adventure through South America--is almost here. Right now I'm a bundle of nerves and excitement, wondering if my Spanish is good enough (not yet), how to pack everything (but not too much) and planning to see all my friends before I leave (must happen).

But let me introduce myself, and my friends who will join me on this blog. We're a group of  second year MBA students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (as you might guess our blog is not officially tied to UNC). Instead of staying in Chapel Hill for our entire second year we've decided to study abroad at some point. Some of us are going for 2 months and others for 4-5 months. We'll be in Italy, Argentina, Chile and a few other countries...and without question we're going to have a fabulous time.

I'm Athena and I'm the first one to leave. I feel like my focus is split on my classes that I have now and preparing for my trip. Getting visas, buying new suitcases, reading up on Argentina and the usual b-school shenanigans. Plus finding a job after b-school falls somewhere in the mix (note: I'm probably won't write too  much about that). You'll learn more about me, besides my love for Michigan football, ice cream and all things Lenny Kravitz, as this blog goes on.

So this is my life right now. Deciding what kind of snack to get with my roommate so we can stay up and finish our homework. Making sure my Mom's facetime is set up so she can "see" me while I'm on another continent. The anticipation of something new, of an adventure that I didn't dare dream for myself but is somehow now happening, is almost overwhelming. Almost, but not quite. Let the fun begin!
