Athena - São Paolo, Brazil - Another Adventure Begins

Hoi! (Hello)
This is the beginning of my third day in São Paolo and Tiffany and I are sitting in a lovely French cafe, having just finished a late breakfast. It's been a whirlwind week so it's nice to take some time to slow down and just be still for a little bit. São Paolo has been wonderful so far. We are staying Hugo, the friend of one of our UNC classmates, and he is an awesome host.

 A few highlights so far:

  • Hugo's directions to get the keys to his apartment from the doorman, a black guy named Nelson. So when I arrived at his building I was literally looking for a black guy, named Nelson. In Argentina this would be very easy because they're are very few black guys, but this is Brazil & there were several black guys in the neighborhood. Needless to say, I found the right one and safely got into Hugo's apartment.
  • We checked out the Sky Bar, a well known roof top bar here and the views were amazing. The caipirinha's were strong, but good, and the ambiance was very classy. Then we had dinner with Sherv, a friend of Hugo. We ate at a really delicious Brazilian spot and Sherv was very kind and treated us to dinner.
  • We visited the Afro-Brazilian museum and a large park that was nearby. In this park, there was a big area where people were practicing ju zitsui, capoeira, wrestling and a few more physical activities. There was also a skate park nearby with tons of teens on rollerblades and skateboards.
Our guides, Hugo and Sherv, have been amazingly wonderful. Their hospitality is way beyond our expectations and we are so grateful for their help!
