Tiffany & Athena - Pernambuco, Brazil - Signs that You've Been Traveling for Too Long

We have now been traveling abroad for two and a half months. Since we've adjusted to life outside of the U.S., we've noticed several things we would once consider to be weird, now appear 'normal' to us. These normal things are really just indicators that we've been gone from home a little too long.

You know you've been traveling too long when you....

- look forward to getting clean clothes from the Laundromat
- do the happy dance after getting adequate water pressure & hot water in the shower
- forget what language is being spoken in the country you're in

- go into a Wi-fi coma and ignore everything & everyone else around you when you finally get internet service again
 - finally ride in a real person's car (not a taxi), and you think this experience is cool
- have perfected your 'I have no idea what's going on' face
- get excited about having a paper map (yes...paper!) of the city you're in
- forget what time zone your in and what time it is back home
-  no longer care about wearing the same clothes over & over again
-  notice that cops are really cute in every country
-  no longer take notice of protests against the government
 - get excited about using up one of your toiletries...less weight in the suitcase! another happy dance
 - realize that cops carrying machine guns, with fingers on the trigger, seems normal
 - realize everyone in the world loves ice cream
-  pretend to be a 'stupid tourist' even though you know you're breaking the rules
-  mentally start to pack your suitcase 48 hours before you leave each destination
 - are ok with not really knowing what you just ordered to eat at a restaurant (fingers crossed!)
-  are not sure what day or month it is
 - get confused when people ask you how long you've been traveling or where you are from
- notice that watching TV in a language that you don't speak seems natural. You even laugh at the right times during the show
- have random currency in your wallet that doesn't match the current country
...and most importantly, you get better at accepting the fact that in the end, regardless of how much planning or stressing you do, everything always works out in the end.
